Here is the cover art I did for the cover of the Ben Folds Five single Do It Anyway. This started out as me doing some fan art with the hopes of helping the guerrilla promotion of their new album, then Ben Re-posted it(blew my mind) and finally Ben’s manager got in contact with me about making it the cover.
The challenge with this ended up being that the original drawing was more for a poster and was not the square shape of albums. Fortunately, I had the original Photoshop file saved. So I went about using various selection tools and cutting out the figures and instruments and shifting them around to condense everything to fit in a square. This was a challenge because I had so much visual information that I wanted to still be clear but also make a good composition. I have another version of this made up that I will post later. It’s a version with no borders that could be used on a T-shirt if they decide to make one.
One thing I would like to add is that I am very much humbled and flattered by the band liking my picture enough to want to use it for their single. As a huge fan I consider it quite an honor.
Here’s a review of the song that includes my illustration. http://diffuser.fm/ben-folds-five-do-it-anyway/
